Surf’s Up in Jaco!

On the 16th and 17th of June, see the National Surf Circuit’s Jaco competition with surfers vying to win the Cafe Britt Iced Cup.

Hours of competition are from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on both days.

Find your spot on the beach in front of the Morgan’s Cove Hotel to watch the best surfers around strut their stuff on their boards!

This is the fifth date on the Surf Federation’s annual calendar, following fierce competition in Dominical last month.  The surfers are hoping for a place in the final this August at Playa Hermosa.

Names to watch out for are national female superstar, Nataly Bernold and 19 year old, Carlos Muñoz, who is considered by many to be the best surfer in Costa Rica right now.

Jaco is a popular beach resort due to its close proximity to the capital city – just a couple of hours along new (if problematic) highway.  It has long been a must for surfers from out of the country and has established itself as a party-hard town too.  Nearby beaches such as Hermosa may offer some better waves and less jam-packed accommodation.

Directions: Drive along Route 27 from San Jose and then join Route 34 to Herradura.  Jaco is well signposted.

Looks like fun for a laid back father’s day activity. Hope it was a good time!

Yes, we are quite fortunate to have major competitions like this to draw crowds to CR.

If you’re already here, it’s worth spending a few hours to watch the pros surf — and to make it look easy!
